Deb Knight has recorded her last Afternoon radio segment, two weeks after she lost her job on the 2GB program — and her fans aren’t happy.

Deb Knight recorded her last Afternoon radio segment on Friday, two weeks after she was told she had lost her job on the 2GB program.

After four years in the chair, Knight will “step back” from the role, instead becoming the “new national host of Money News”.

And while it’s believed Knight is less than impressed by the move, so are her fans, with many loyal listeners taking to social media to criticise management’s decision, claiming 2GB is “a boys club”.

“So sorry you are losing your afternoon show. It just goes to reveal what a boys club 2GB is,” wrote Bodhi — and — alfie.

While Julesdc88 said; “I am staggered that this totally male dominated radio station from Friday does not have a female broadcaster on. Loved your show Debra. Come on it’s 2023 for gods sake. Females are now around 53 per cent of the population. When are these ageing dinosaur men going to get it.”

Harry99 wrote, “All the best Deb. It’s been a pleasure tuning in and listening during those long WFH days during the lockdowns down here in Melbourne. Thank you.”

While deb — meddows said “They will be sorry they let you go. Sadly, management do not always get it right.”

Robynschmitz said, “We will miss you Deb. The last 4 years of your reign was just what 2GB needed. You are so down to earth. One of us. Thank you.”

On air, Knight told her friends: “I am stepping back as host of afternoons. I am not, however, leaving 2GB. In fact I’m taking on a new broader network role,’ she said.

“I’ve been appointed to a new position as the new national host of Money News.”

“I have missed too many school drop offs and pick ups over the years, I do often put work first,” she said. “So I’m very much looking forward to being able to be here a lot more for my family.”

The Sunday Telegraph last weekend revealed that Nine Radio was set to announce the axing of Knight, after being informed by management that her stint on the afternoon shift was over.

Knight was reportedly “shattered” by the news.

Knight losing her plum gig — her contract was rumoured to be at a whopping $600,000 at the start of her role with 2GB in 2020 — comes off the back of a small lift in ratings, with the most recent survey results recording a share of 7.1 per cent, up 1.1 points.

Drive with Chris O’Keefe, who is on air from 3pm to 6pm, recorded a share of 7.6 (up 0.8).

In August, 2GB declined in key timeslots with Ben Fordham down 3.5 per cent in breakfast, Deborah Knight off 1.9 per cent in afternoons and Chris O’Keefe down 0.8 points in drive.

“Both Deb and Chris declined in the August ratings, but she has come back stronger than him this time. But he has kept his job.”

“Go figure.”

As for who is set to take Knight’s coveted slot, the whispers are Neil Breen, a recent fill-in for Deb Knight, Joe Hildebrand, and fellow 2GB presenter Mark Levy could potentially be “favourites” for the role.
