Coronavirus: OnlyFans members uploading naked photos, videos see income double

Aussies selling cheeky photos on nudey rudey social platforms have seen their income double since COVID-19 with a 75 per cent global increase in sign-ups and it’s even where you can find your favourite Kings Cross dancers.

Is porn ruining our sex lives?

Users of naughty photo sharing platform OnlyFans have seen a huge spike in earnings since COVID-19 restrictions came in, with some content creators seeing their income double.

Globally OnlyFans, a social media platform where users can upload naughty photos and videos of themselves, has seen a 75 per cent increase in sign-ups comprising creators and consumers, totalling more than 26 million users worldwide.

While the platform has been around since 2017, the restrictions put in place by international governments has caused a loss of income and boredom, the perfect storm for a platform such as OnlyFans to thrive.

Jaylene Cook, the Playboy model who shot to infamy in 2017 after she posed nude on a sacred Maori mountain in New Zealand, was already a creator on OnlyFans before the crisis hit, but said she has seen her monthly income from the site double from $15,000 to $30,000.

Surprisingly, while she does strip down completely, she said many people are seeking interaction more than anything.

“Since the global pandemic I have noticed a big increase in the amount of time people are spending online and also in the amount of new users signing up to these services,” she told Confidential.

“It seems everyone is seeking human interaction more than ever or some type of companionship and personal connection rather than just scrolling through pointless images/ videos online – they want to feel a connection.

“Majority of users I chat with from all around world just seem lonely and are seeking some attention or entertainment from a woman and with more women turning to these platforms for income, they are being promoted more frequently increasing curiosity for new users to sign up.”

OnlyFans operates under a subscription model where “fans” pay a fee for access to the content creators are uploading. The fee is set by the creators and OnlyFans takes a 20 per cent cut of all earnings.

Cook is also a creator on Patreon, which is commonly used for podcasts, while similar sites such as Alua, ManyVids and even Snapchat are also used for selling cheeky photos and videos.

Unlike Cook, model Carlie Shipman signed up for OnlyFans as a result of losing all of her regular work as a model.

She said within her first month on the platform, the month of March, she had hundreds of subscriptions charging at almost $10 per month.

“I’ve had hundreds subscribe and my first periodic month is up and majority have resubscribed, so I’m pretty happy about that,” she said.

“My income was affected due to the coronavirus, so the money from this is definitely helping in my daily life.

The site has also been used to help businesses innovate, such as Dollhouse Gentleman’s Club at Kings Cross, which was forced to shut due to social distancing restrictions.

The club has been promoting its dancers on their Instagram to keep their clientele connected, saying their accounts are “almost as good as seeing her (them) in the flesh”.

But full time content creator, escort and adult agency owner Gia Rouge said anyone looking for a quick payday through OnlyFans may be disappointed, it is not as easy as it seems to make a “quick buck”.

“With OnlyFans payments what a lot of people don’t realise is it takes a lot of time for you to see that money,

“Subscriber payments have to clear for two weeks and you have to reach a minimum of $500 USD before you can withdraw that money.

“And then it takes five business days to hit your account.

“And then OnlyFans takes a 20 per cent cut.

“I’m also an escort and I own an adult entertainment agency, both of which obviously make me $0 right now. I would be very stuck without OnlyFans right now.”
