The founder of a domestic violence charity has taken legal action against yachting royalty Ros Oatley after she claims Oatley’s dog bit her on the bum.

According to her claim filed in the District Court of NSW, the dog bite took place at Oatley’s lavish Mosman home in 2018, where Juliet Potter was attending annual charity soiree, Merry Litmas, an event thrown by five well-known Sydneysiders including Oatley’s son, Bobby.

Potter’s charity White Caravan was the beneficiary of the $30,000 raised at the event.

However, things took a turn for the worse, according to the claim, when the late winemaker and sailor Bob Oatley’s daughter’s Great Dane dog bit Potter on the behind on the staircase of her grand Mosman home.

Potter is believed to have taken a phone call from Oatley shortly after the incident, and things were civil.

However, after a stint in hospital with septicaemia and cellulitis which Potter claims was a result of the bite, and hefty medical costs, Potter has decided to take legal action against Oatley.

Ms Potter claims Ms Oatley is strictly liable for the alleged dog bite under the Companion Animals Act.

“I didn’t want to go down this path, but it has become apparent that I didn’t have any choice,” Potter told Sunday Confidential on Saturday.

Oatley did not respond to our request for comment. No defence has been filed yet in response to the claim.
