Channel 9 news boss Darren Wick shuts down Twitter account

Following a series of public Twitter feuds, Channel 9’s news and current affairs boss Darren Wick has deactivated his account. This comes after he was branded by rivals at Seven as the Donald Trump of Channel 9, thanks to his constant congratulatory tweets for the low-rating Today program.

Today Show ratings slip to worst in 13 years after changing breakfast show hosts

After weeks of controversial posts, Nine news and current affairs boss Darren Wick has silenced himself by deleting his Twitter account.

Wick has had public Twitter stoushes with numerous people in recent weeks, including Seven’s Sunrise EP Michael Pell, and now Sunday Confidential can reveal he deactivated his account in recent days.

The move comes after Wick was branded by rivals at Seven as the Donald Trump of Channel 9, thanks to his constant Saturday morning congratulatory tweets for the Today program which has been receiving lacklustre ratings.

Despite the fact his Today show team hit a ratings low, an optimistic Wick continued to sing the program’s praises, touting milestones, no matter how small or insignificant.

Things turned nasty when he was baited by Sunrise EP Pell who took exception to
his “momentum” tweets, pointing out that there are no wins to claim.

This prompted Wick to refer to the Sunrise team as the “bad guys”.

“A weekly aggregate means @TheTodayShow has won the city by 1920. We won,
bad guys lost. Questions?,” Wick tweeted.

The self-imposed Twitter ban hasn’t come as a surprise to industry insiders, as it is not usual protocol for News bosses to publish such colourful comments.
