When he was stood down because of the COVID-19 pandemic, pilot Jimmy Nicholson made the most of his free time — he decided to become The Bachelor.
The Daily Telegraph can exclusively announce that the 31-year-old Sydneysider is ready for takeoff as this year’s Bachelor and has commenced filming this week in a new location.
While in the past Nicholson’s job made it hard to find love because he was never in the same spot for too long, the enforced leave brought on by COVID meant the time was right to find a partner.
“I feel very fortunate to be the Bachelor 2021. I am ready to open up my heart and meet someone,” he said.
“I hope to meet someone with similar values that I can have fun with and that shares the same zest for life as myself. The Bachelor franchise has produced many success stories and I hope to be the next.”
After lacklustre ratings of Bachelor in Paradise and The Bachelorette, which starred ex Bachelor contestant Elly Miles and sister Becky Miles, Nicholson is a fresh new face to helm the series after an extensive search.
Nicholson, who is of New Zealand and Fijian heritage, has set his Instagram to private in preparation for filming.
The announcement comes after the American franchise cast Matt James, it’s first black Bachelor in the show’s 20-year history, That was followed with the announcement of ex- NFL player and commentator Emmanuel Acho would replace the show’s longtime host Chris Harrison, after he defended a contestant for attending a racially insensitive themed party in 2018.
