Candice Warner does not claim to be an expert on all things sport.
The retired professional ironwoman does however like to think she knows a little about a lot when it comes to the broad variety of topics she will discuss as a new regular panellist on Fox Sports long running show, The Back Page.
“I am not going to pretend that I am an expert across everything because I am not,” the wife of Aussie cricketer David Warner told The Daily Telegraph.
“But I have an opinion and I am not afraid to say my opinion. I love to listen and I love to learn, I listen to a lot of podcasts and I watch a lot of sport.”
The mother of three will sit alongside long-time host Tony Squires on the popular Foxtel and Kayo Sports program on Tuesday’s at 7.30pm.
Together, they will unpack the latest news across a range of sports here and abroad.
“It is everything from V8s to rugby league, AFL, basketball, soccer, whatever is going on in sport, and not just in Australia but the big moments in the world we are covering,” she said.
“I am such a sports nut and a sports fan, it is something that I have always kept a close eye on just because I love all things sport.”
While a fan of many sports, Warner said she would be consuming a whole lot more thanks to the new gig.
“For me it is keeping an eye on everything that is going on,” said Warner, whose new memoir Running Strong is released on April 19.
“So on the weekend not just watching my favourite team in the NRL but watching all of the rounds and keeping an eye on what is happening in the NBL, or the netball is starting soon so watching that and maybe going out to a few games. Being across everything and not just watching what is my favourite sport.”
Last month, Warner spoke to Confidential about her tell-all memoir, Running Strong, which will be released in April.
“It is raw, emotional, heartfelt, just a warts and all book,” she explained at the time.
“It is a story of a young girl growing up with a dream and aspirations, a girl that grew up in Maroubra, a very working class suburb that had to fight and someone who made mistakes along the way and overcame them. It is a story about facing adversity and triumphing, messing up and finding my way and then finding love.”
Nothing is off limits, meaning Warner will detail some of the more difficult times in her life,
“I touch on absolutely everything, every single thing from the Clovelly Hotel incident to South Africa,” she said.
