The bar at the centre of one of Sydney’s worst coronavirus clusters will be closed for at least 18 months.

Celebrity haunt The Bucket List is currently closed due to COVID-19 with the owners understood to be letting its July lease at Bondi Pavilion go while Waverly Council prepare for a multimillion-dollar overhaul of the site.

“Bucket List has closed for the pending Bondi Pavilion restoration, which we are excited about,” a spokesman for the trendy venue told Confidential.

“The Bucket is very much part of the Bondi community, established and run for nine years by Bondi locals. We are working with council and feel confident the much loved Bucket will return looking amazing at the new Pavilion.”

Confidential understands Bucket List company director Andy Ruwald is yet to sign a new lease and is in discussions with council about a new look venue down the track.

The Bondi Bar has hosted some of the biggest name celebrities in the world, including Ed Sheeran, Kelly Rowland, Steve Tyler, Paris Hilton and Coldplay.

It has however had some negative publicity of late. On March 15 the popular backpacker destination went ahead with a planned Back To Boogie Wonderland Tropicana party that resulted in 20 cases of coronavirus.

The event took place just hours after Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced strict public health measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

Subsequent social media images shared from the party show punters ignoring the social distancing rules with guests pictured kissing and hugging on the dance floor.

In March, The Daily Telegraph revealed that the venue was also being sued by insta-famous body builder Clinton Chadwick after he was hit over the head with a bar stool in a 2017 brawl.

The Bucket List filed a statement of defence to the Supreme Court of NSW.
