Brittany Hockley and her boyfriend did long distance for eight months. Now, they’re engaged.
The former Bachelor and I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! star took to Instagram to announce she was engaged to Swiss footballer Benjamin Siegrist on Wednesday, flashing her huge ring with a big smile on her face.
The 36-year-old, who was wearing a white dress with daring cut-outs down the side, captioned the images: “In any lifetime it’s a YES! Just two people loving each other for the rest of our lives.
“The night before, I said to Ben, I was like, something’s not right, and we’re at dinner. And I said, something doesn’t feel right. I was like, are you okay? And he was like, yeah, why? And I was like, you just, I feel like you’ve been different,” Hockley said on Thursday.
Her fiance admitted he was “very nervous” about popping the question.
The Bachelor star also shared the thrilling news with good friends Laura Byrne and Keeshia Pettit on their Life Uncut podcast on Wednesday, although Byrne admitted she’d known for some time that this was coming.
“I’ve been single for the better part of 10 years, and I was always the single friend watching all my friends fall in love, which made me so happy. But it was definitely hard because I love, love,” she started, pretending to read a listener’s email.
“I started to think maybe it wasn’t for me.
“Then in 2022 I met this amazing guy, but he lived overseas.
“My friends were really concerned because long distance is never easy and I’ve always had commitment issues, but this time it felt different and I thought he was worth it.”
“Flash forward to now and I’ve never been happier.
“And last week on a beautiful island he asked me to be his wife. And I just want to know what’s a cute way to tell my friends that I’m getting married,’ Hockey finished, before admitting: “It’s me,” to her co-host’s screams.
“I don’t know when, but I’m a person that really goes off feelings. I knew the feeling was right,” Hockley’s fiance Siegrist said on the podcast on Thursday afternoon when asked how he knew she was the one.
“I think we’re both at an age where we’re done with all the games, we’re settling our relationship, whatever it is, the long distance, and we’re trying to make it work as best as we can.”
Neither Hockley or Siegrist commented on whether they planned to relocate so that they can end their long-distance situation.
“I think it would give both of us a lot of security if we knew where our future was going,” he said of popping the question.
“Who doesn’t want to spend the rest of their life with a person that makes you want to be better? Who makes you laugh? Who’s always there for you, supports you in your career?
“You know, if anything happens in my life, good or bad, I just want to run to her and tell her and share my day with her.
“It’s one of those feelings you have when you’re just truly happy because of the person that she is.”
The couple met in November 2022, first connecting on the celebrity dating app Raya while Siegrist’s team Celtic FC was playing in Australia.
On Thursday, Byrne admitted she was “sceptical in the start” about Siegrist’s intentions.
“I have seen Britt have her heart broken throughout our friendship, and that was an awful thing,” she explained.
“No one wants to see their friend be hurt.
“And I genuinely want to say Ben, thank you so much for making her the happiest that she’s ever been.”
In March, Hockley opened up in Stellar’s podcast Something To Talk About the unsuccessful IVF process she underwent last year.
The couple were left with three embryos — two of which were not viable, and the final one of which was diagnosed with a rare chromosomal abnormality, which meant it could not be implanted.
Hockley first rose to fame in 2018 when she appeared on Nick Cummins’s season of The Bachelor, where he infamously did not pick anyone on the dating show.
In January 2023, she posted the first image together with goalkeeper Siegrist, who have been kept apart due to their work, while holidaying in Europe.
“From Paris, with love,” Hockley captioned the video.
“Think I may have found me a keeper #hardestlaunch.”
