British star’s big gripe after headlining Logies

Acclaimed British singer James Bay was the headline performer at Sunday’s Logie Awards but something was missing. Here’s what.

British muso James Bay had one major gripe with Aussie television’s biggest night of the year.

Bay was the headline entertainment at the Logie Awards at Sydney’s The Star on Sunday and was disappointed not to see any of his childhood TV favourites.

With Neighbours not nominated this year, none of the cast attended.

“I wanted a bit more Neighbours than I got,” Bay, 33, told The Daily Telegraph.

“Toadfish, that is like my era. Him and Harold and Madge, they were in it forever right. I am not quite the expert I wish I was on Aussie TV.”

Ryan Moloney has played Toadfish on TV soap Neighbours since 1995 while Ian Smith was Harold Bishop and Anne Charleston was Madge Ramsay.

Neighbours and Home and Away continue to attract large audiences in the UK.

“Isn’t Thor from Home and Away?” Bay questioned. “He wasn’t on Neighbours was he?”

Bay, known globally for his huge hits Let It Go and Hold Back The River, was however happy to recognise Robert Irwin, Guy Sebastian and Ant Middleton at the event.

He is in Sydney for just a few days, here for the awards and to promote his upcoming fourth studio album, Changes All The Time.

New single, Up All Night, featuring Noah Kahan and The Lumineers, is out now.

“I think it has a sort of physical and emotional sort of freedom,” Bay said of the song. “It is asking you to drop your inhibitions.”
