Despite recent speculation it was set to close, Bondi’s beloved Mamasaan is very much alive, buzzing and under new ownershipafter its original operating company was wound up.
The cult-favourite restaurant and bar, known for its moody interiors and pan-Asian bites, has confirmed its business as usual after documents filed with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) revealed the original operating company, Sydney Hospitality Group Pty Ltd, entered creditors’ voluntary liquidation last week.
The company was just shy of three years old, having first been registered in September 2022.
But while the business entity may have been wound up, the venue itself is still trading.
Director and secretary Stephen Rose, who oversaw the now-liquidated company, told Confidential the liquidation of Sydney Hospitality Group Pty Ltd was a “routine corporate decision unrelated to the venue’s operations, staff, or future.”
Rose confirmed MamaSaan is “open and continuing to operate under new ownership.”
The restaurant, known for it’s moody interiors and share-style pan-Asian menu remains a favourite among locals, influencers and visiting reality stars.
Last year, MamaSaan was thrown into the spotlight as a filming location for reality series Made in Bondi.
The show, which follows Sydney’s young and glamorous set, used the venue for multiple scenes.
Model and cast member Lawson Mahoney described it as “such a bustling little place.”
“Every time I’ve come here for drinks or dinner it’s always busy, and the atmosphere is chatty and bubbly. The decor is really sexy.”
