When he was 15 years old, George Mirosevich’s mother said he could drop out of school if he got a job. That job was in a kitchen in Newcastle, washing piles and piles of dishes.

Fast forward 15 years, Mirosevich is one of the country’s most in-demand private chefs, who caters for the rich and famous, including Australian superstar The Kid Laroi.

Mirosevich said he fell in love with the team environment of a kitchen, and after finishing his apprenticeship got a scholarship to learn his craft with the best in the world, working at Aussie Brett Graham’s three Michelin-starred The Ledbury in London.

Returning to Australia, he worked for the likes of Guillaume Brahimi before starting his own restaurant.

However, Covid changed his direction, and when lockdown was over he started a catering business.

“We got to the point where we were catering everything from events with Ferrari to private dinner parties for eight at $50m mansions on Coogee beach,” Mirosevich says.

That’s how he got into private catering. He now has just five clients, who rank among the world’s wealthiest 0.01 per cent.

He’s no stranger to getting calls at midnight to ask if he’ll fly to Noosa to cook a lunch. Nor to signing non-disclosure agreements.

On request, he’s cooked everything from a simple healthy lunch to a feast with wagyu and caviar.

Recently, he received a call about a client flying in on a private jet from the US and needing dinner in three hours. That client was The Kid Laroi. And he was so impressed with Mirosevich, that Mirosevich cooked for him for the next week.

As well as running his own chef-prepared meal company, Bare Chefs, Mirosevich stars in the new Binge series Billion Dollar Playground. It’s a behind-the-scenes look at what goes on in the lives of the mega-rich, from the people who cook their food to the concierges that organise their lives.

“I said no to doing the show four times, because I have built up such a reputation that I didn’t want to destroy it with a reality show, Mirosevich starts.

“But this show is different. It’s actually reality.”

While his clients might come from all walks of life, he says the one thing they have in common is that when it comes to their food, it’s now all about health.

“Gone are the days of the long lunches, now, he says his clients want to “optimise their day.”
