Newton’s gambling problems have been well-documented for decades and are believed to have caused difficulties with wife of 43 years, Patti.
His gambling problems were first brought to light in 1993, after it was revealed the Newton family were on the verge of bankruptcy and $1 million in debt due to his addiction.
It isn’t the first time Newton has been seen hanging out at a TAB.
“When was it illegal to go to a TAB? He’s going to be 79 in July,” wife Patti said in a radio interview last year.
“Good on him. He can have a flutter, if he can afford it.”
It has previously been reported Patti gives her husband a weekly betting allowance of around $100.
