THE romance is over — now for the warring versions of why Bachelorette sweethearts Sophie Monk and Stu Laundy split after just six months.
Two days after Monk announced the split on Instagram, speculation has swirled.
Although the Bachelorette brought Monk a nation of new fans, charmed by her honesty and apparently genuine desire to find love, many were baffled by her decision to take on a still-married playboy father-of-four who openly said he wished wife Rachel did not want to divorce him.
Now a close pal of Laundy is claiming the businessman and pub-empire heir walked because he, not Monk, wanted to stay in and snuggle on the sofa.
Laundy’s mate claims Monk, 38, wanted to go out and socialise while Laundy — who has a reputation of his own as a goodtime guy — simply couldn’t keep up.

“Sophie loves to party … loves to have a drink and a cigarette and has made no secret of that,” the source said.
“And in the end it became a bit much for Stu.
“He even tried to get her to slow down … just a little bit. Have the odd night on the couch. But Sophie wasn’t interested.”
It’s understood their relationship finally came to a head during a New Year skiing holiday in Canada and Laundy broke it off shortly after their return to Australia.
Monk’s manager, Titus Day, took umbrage at the claims last night. “There is no one I’ve met who parties less than Sophie,” he said. “That is common knowledge.”
So is Monk really a party animal? And does Laundy really yearn to stay in and watch The Crown? In pre-publicity for the Bachelorette, Monk said her perfect date was: “Ugg boots, trackies, TV, wine.”
But in 2014 on radio she talked about drinking at least six bottles of wine a week.
“I drink like a bottle a night,” she told visiting US medic Dr Oz during her 2DayFM show.
“If I can try … I’ll try and do that. Sometimes I’m tired but I really am committed to drinking a bottle a night,” she said.
Co-host Merrick Watts interjected to suggest the figure was closer to four bottles a night, to which Monk replied: “Yeah if you go crazy, sometimes four … but doesn’t everyone?”
Laundy, in an interview before he became a Bachelorette “intruder”, said he was a reformed skirt-chaser who had been “dating for Australia” after Rachel kicked him out.
“I was pretty loose there for a while; I couldn’t be counted on,” he said. “I was sort of wandering, just being an idiot. I had a couple of throwaway years, which people do after separation and divorce.”
