With two kids aged under three, Jesinta Franklin wasn’t expecting to land her first global swimwear campaign.
The model mum is the new face of Seafolly, internationally fronting the brand in the US, through Europe, Asia and of course at home in Australia with billboards, magazine editorial and store signage.
“I was actually joking with Bud (Swans AFL star husband Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin) the other night, 12 years ago as a young model starting out, this is something I could only ever dream of,” Franklin told The Daily Telegraph.
“If you had told me back then that it would take until I was 31 and just having two kids to get there, I wouldn’t have believed you.
“I just thought once I had kids and being older, that things would really start to slow down for me in the industry but I’m finding that some of the most exciting opportunities are starting to come through now.”
Franklin is one of our top modelling names, having risen to fame in 2010 when she represented Australia at Miss Universe and placed second runner-up.
She has worked with Seafolly several times over those years but never before as global ambassador which sees her follow in the footsteps of the likes of Shanina Shaik, Gigi Hadid and Miranda Kerr.
Franklin noted her body had changed since giving birth.
“My relationship with my body after having my children has been a new thing for me to navigate,” Franklin said.
“Everything kind of looks a little bit different. I didn’t think I would be shooting a swimwear campaign after having two kids, I just wasn’t sure how I would feel about it. I feel really fit and strong at the moment and I made a conscious decision when I had kids that I wasn’t going to let any insecurities I had about my body stop me from participating in things.”
She continued: “I don’t want to sit on the sidelines and miss out on memories with my kids because I’m feeling a bit self-conscious about something … I want to be in the water with them, I want to be in the pool with them swimming around.
“In the past I’ve definitely let my own insecurities, no matter how silly or small they are, sometimes take over and not participate in things or not go to the beach.
“I know that sounds really stupid because I’m a model in bikinis and all of that stuff, but sometimes it can have the reverse effect on your body confidence and make you feel even more super critical.”
