Aussie Insta influencer slammed over freebie call-out

She’s turning 30 and is not prepared for it to cost an arm and a leg. Social media influencer Miann Scanlan has put an in-your-face call out for freebies ahead of her milestone celebration. This is what she was hoping to bag.

Brisbane “influencer” Miann Scanlan has put herself on Confidential’s radar after launching a brazen 30th birthday campaign asking for freebies from top publicity agencies.

An extraordinary 11-page marketing proposal sent to Confidential outlines the bold request to be part of her Miann30 campaign.

It is the first time this column has heard of Scanlan, who boasts of her 48,600 Instagram followers.

“In 2013, Miann Scanlan cemented herself as an influencer authentically sharing the ups and downs of her 20s with a unique city-meets-sea style,” the campaign deck reads.

“Today, she is an everyday professional young woman settling down in her new dream apartment about to enter her 30s. This birthday campaign is an opportunity for brands to gain access to her stories free of charge through birthday gift story unboxings.

“Each brand will be vetted for gifting to ensure successful audience alignment. If chosen, your brand will be introduced to Miann’s audience as part of a curated edit hand selected by Miann herself.

“The campaign goal is to cement longstanding and lucrative brand relationships to carry on through her 30s.”

Scanlan, who celebrated her actual birthday yesterday, did not respond to requests for comment.

The document features a page of gift ideas, including luxury candles, monogrammed gifts, gold jewellery, beauty products, flowers, homewares, decor, furniture and clothing.

She also provides her dress and shoe size, as well as jewellery colour (gold, of course) and colour palette neutrals with a delivery address for her Brisbane city apartment.

Initial Instagram stories are free of charge for the campaign, which runs until August 7, with $50 charged per additional frame posted.

The celebration is split over two events, a “dinner in the city” on her actual birthday and a “lunch in the sun” on Saturday where “partners” can dress her “head to toe” and pay for social media love as well.

Scanlan has discounted her usual rates for the “tier one” paid option if brands want to be a part of those events.

A non-exclusive brand tag image post has been cut from $600 to $200 and a 15 second non-exclusive brand tag video post down to $375 from $750.

Exclusive brand tag images are charged at $450 per image post, compared to her usual price of $850, and an exclusive brand tag video of 15 seconds is $600, down from $1050.

Guffaws were heard when Confidential spoke to publicists who had been sent the proposal.

“It is really distasteful considering the current climate,” said one publicist of two decades experience.

“Brands are doing it tough at the moment and this is completely tone deaf to that, not to mention the fact that even if times were normal, this would be an odd pitch.”

Not surprisingly to Confidential, there have been very few, if any, “unboxings” on Scanlan’s Instagram since she launched the campaign on July 22.
