Erin Molan was a last minute no-show at the Australian Commercial Radio Awards on Saturday night after falling ill.

It comes after weeks of the TV and radio personality being at the centre of a rumoured bitter feud with her Nine stablemate, NRL great Andrew “Joey” Johns.

It should have been a triumphant celebration for Molan, whose illness kept her at home in Sydney while the co-host of 2GB Afternoons With Erin Molan And Natalie Peters was in Brisbane accepting their award for Best On Air Team on the AM dial.

“Erin is devastated that she can’t be here in Brisbane,” Peters told Sunday Confidential.

“We are really honoured to have this show.”

Molan was also forced to miss the duo’s radio show this weekend and was not present as Channel 9 unveiled its 2020 programming slate in Sydney during the week.

Via email, she told Sunday Confidential: “I fell in love with radio years ago, so to be recognised in this way is so lovely.

“I think we offer something really unique — and I’m not talking about the fact we are both women. Gender doesn’t come into it, we’re broadcasters who love breaking news, doing intriguing interviews, hearing from our listeners and having a laugh along the way.”

Molan was named best newcomer on air at the ACRAs a couple of years back and is well regarded in the industry.

Award winners also included WSFM’s Brendan “Jonesy” Jones and Amanda Keller, who were named Best On Air Team on the FM dial.

It was the third time the pair had won that award in their 14 years together and another reason to celebrate after last week announcing they had re-signed to the station for a further three years.

Ben Fordham at 2GB was named Best Talk Presenter while Triple M’s Lawrence Mooney won Best Entertainment Presenter and Hamish and Andy took home Best Original Podcast.

Longtime radio presenter Doug Mulray was also inducted into the ACRA Hall of Fame during radio’s night of nights.
