While Macquarie Radio’s 2GB network took a small hit this ratings survey, there was good news for KIIS FM. Here is how the FM and AM radio station shows finished up following the release of today’s results.

Macquarie Radio’s 2GB network may have taken a small hit this ratings survey but remains well and truly on top.

With news Sydney radio king Alan Jones would be off air indefinitely as he seeks treatment for severe back pain, the station still had reason to celebrate.

Jones’ breakfast show dropped 1.5 percentage points to sit at a whopping 17.5 per cent share of the overall market, according to the latest GFK Radio Ratings.

That is well ahead of any competition with his nearest rivals, Kyle and Jackie O on KIIS FM and ABC Sydney both at 10.7 per cent in the breakfast market.

They are followed by Jonesy and Amanda at 7.2 per cent, a drop of 2.1 per cent, for their WSFM show, closely trailed by Nova 96.9s Fitzy and Wippa, who remained stable at 7.1 per cent.

2GBs mornings host Ray Hadley shed 2.5 percentage points but remained on top. He held an incredible share of 17.7 per cent, a long shot from any rivals with his nearest competition coming from KIIS at 9.3 per cent.

In drive, Nova 96.9s Kate, Tim and Marty were the top station on air with a share of 11.8 per cent between 4pm and 6pm, a drop of one percentage point from the last survey. On the AM dial, the talkback crown remains with Ben Fordham at 2GB thanks to a 10 per cent share between 3pm and 6pm.

It is the seventh of eight ratings surveys of the year with the final results of 2018 to be released on December 18.

Overall across all stations, 2GB dropped 1.3 percentage points to a leading share of 14.1 per cent, ahead of the top station on the FM dial, SmoothFM at 8.8 per cent, and ABC Sydney also at 8.8 per cent.

KIIS FM sat at 8.6 per cent, a rise of 1.3 percentage points.

KIIS FM sat at 8.6 per cent, a rise of 1.3 percentage points, WSFM at 8.2 per cent and Nova 96.9 at 7.9 per cent.

Earlier today, Jones’ 2GB colleague Chris Smith filled in for the broadcaster.

“He’s currently in hospital being treated for severe back pain,” Smith said.

“His doctors are working to establish exactly what the problem is. The end result is he’ll be back as soon as he can but we’re not sure exactly when that will be.” Jones had surgery on his back in November 2016 and several subsequent neck operations, forcing him off air for four months.”
