SOFIA Vergara has slammed complaints that her spinning pedestal stunt at yesterday’s Emmys was “sexist”, calling the criticism “ridiculous”.
Vergara took to the stage in her figure-hugging white dress during Bruce Rosemblum’s address to the audience and spun around on a platform for the audience to admire her figure.
Rosenblum, the President of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, then joked he was giving the viewers “something compelling to look at” during his speech.
Talk show host Katie Couric was among those who criticised the objectification of Vergara as “sexist”.
I love @SofiaVergara but did anyone find that schtick somewhat offensive?

But Vergara wasn’t having a bar of it, going as far to reference Couric’s comments personally.
“I think it’s absolutely the opposite,” Vergara told UsWeekly following the backlash.
“It means that somebody can be hot and also be funny and make fun of herself and enjoy and work and make money. So I absolutely think it’s ridiculous and somebody who started — and I know who she was — has no sense of humour and should lighten up a little bit.”
The Guardian also called Vergara’s turn a “gross, stereotypical objectification” saying the Emmy shouldn’t “feature a Latina woman spun around like a piece of meat on a vertical spit”.
Despite the controversy, it was a big night for Vergara and the Modern Family cast who took out their fifth award for Outstanding Comedy Series.
