After a post-match embrace at the Tokyo Olympics set tongues wagging, Matildas star Sam Kerr has gone public with her new flame.
Kerr has confirmed she is dating rival US football star Kristie Mewis after recently separating from long-term partner Nikki Stanton.
The 27-year-old Matildas captain made it “Instagram official” with Mewis on Monday, posting a Polaroid picture of the American sitting on her lap as they kissed.
She tagged Mewis in the post and captioned the image with a red heart emoji.
The pair sparked romance rumours in Tokyo after Mewis was seen comforting Kerr following the Matildas loss to the US in the bronze medal match last Thursday.
People on social media pointed out Kerr and Mewis had been “flirting” on Instagram for several months.
Kerr’s seven-year relationship with US soccer pin-up Nikki Stanton ended in the lead up to Olympics. She reportedly told friends she had “fallen out of love” with Stanton who she met in 2014 when they were teammates in the US.
The pair have also unfollowed each other on Instagram.
