Russell Brand questioned by Met over new alleged sex offences

Comedian and actor Russell Brand has been interviewed at a London police station over further sex offence allegations.

Comedian Russell Brand has been questioned by Metropolitan Police for the second time in relation to a further six allegations of historical sex offences.

Scotland Yard said a man in his 40s, understood to be the actor, attended a police station in south London on December 14 and was questioned in relation to further “non-recent sexual offences”, The Times reports.

An investigation by the Sunday Times, the Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches revealed last September allegations of rape, sexual assaults and emotional abuse against Brand.

Brand has previously vehemently denied all claims of inappropriate activity and said his sexual relationships had all been consensual.

Four women made complaints against the star concerning incidents between 2006 and 2013.

It has also been claimed that Brand had behaved inappropriately at work, displaying predatory and controlling behaviour.

Scotland Yard detectives are working on the investigation with officers from Operation Hydrant, a police unit set up after the Jimmy Savile scandal to respond to “non-recent” sexual offence allegations, The Times reports.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is leading the police inquiry, has said: “We continue to encourage anyone who believes they may have been a victim of a sexual offence, no matter how long ago it was, to contact us.”

He added: “We understand it can feel like a difficult step to take, and I want to reassure that we have a team of specialist officers available to advise and support.”

The BBC has also said it is investigating five complaints about the star when he worked as a radio presenter.

In a broadcast on the video platform Rumble, Brand previously suggested that he was the target of a “war on free speech”.
