'False and absurd': Twist in Rebel Wilson defamation lawsuit

Aussie queen of comedy Rebel Wilson has returned to Australia for the summer after a tumultuous year.

The Pitch Perfect star was spotted in matching yellow jumpsuits with wife Ramona Agruma and their daughter Royce, fresh off a flight at Sydney International Airport on Friday.

It’s been a big year for Wilson: she got hitched to partner Agruma in Italy in September, directed her first musical comedy The Deb, which showcased at the Toronto Film Festival amid scandal, before she announced in November that her latest action comedy Bride Hard will premier in theatres next year.

But it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows for the esteemed Aussie actor.

Public rows flared up online between Wilson and the producers of The Deb.

The actor took to her 11 million Instagram fans in an explosive video to accuse producers Amanda Ghost, Gregor Cameron and Vince Holden of blocking the film’s success by preventing it from screening on the festival’s closing night, accusing them of “bad behaviour”, “inappropriate conduct” and “embezzling”.

It has resulted in a months-long bitter feud and legal battles, after Ghost, Cameron and Holden slapped the 44-year-old with a multimillion-dollar defamation suit with the Los Angeles Superior Court, denying the claims as “false, defamatory, and disappointing”.

It’s clear Wilson and her family will be enjoying some down time away from the drama for the summer holidays Down Under.

In June, Wilson put her deluxe penthouse in Balmain on the market with an asking price of around $2.3m.
