Radio legend John Laws has made a return to his morning radio show on 2SM Super Network after the legend was absent for almost a month.

His colleagues Pete Davis and Dave Cochrane had been filling in on The John Laws Morning Show to allow “the king” to recuperate from the flu.

Cochrane was still in the hot seat on Monday and told listeners: “I’m sorry to say you’ve got to put up with me again today, the king is still not feeling the best but we’ve got our fingers crossed that he may be back and behind the golden microphone tomorrow”.

“We do apologise. We did think he was back today. We were hoping ... we were informed that he was doing his best to be back today but he’s woken up today still not feeling the best. So our thoughts and prayers go out to him and fingers crossed that he’ll be back here, possibly tomorrow,” Cochrane said at the opening of Monday’s show.

But the talkback icon made a surprise return to the airwaves on Wednesday, making it four weeks since he had been off sick.

The radio legend, who had been absent from the airwaves since August 1 while battling a serious case of the flu, turned 88 on August 8.

Cochrane first told listeners at the beginning of August, that Lawsy “wasn’t feeling so well, we wish him a speedy recovery and hopefully we’ll have Lawsy back on the radio for you on the radio tomorrow morning.”

It was then announced that the “dreaded flu” had taken hold well and truly, with Cochrane explaining on August 9 that “John’s still not feeling the best … our fingers are crossed he will be back as soon as he can be ... and as soon as he can be he will be.”

Laws also disappeared from the airwaves in March 2021 and had two trips in hospital receiving treatment for an infection.

“I had two trips to hospital, I went once, then I got out, and they decided they liked me, so they invited me back again, and I went back again. Anyway [I’m] better now, well hopefully better now.”
