The Danish royals are clearly fond of Australia, with Queen Mary’s nephew on a job hunt Down Under.
Count Nikolai of Monpezat, seventh in line to the Danish throne has returned to Australia following his six-month exchange in Sydney last year.
After completing his business studies at the University of Technology Sydney, the 25-year-old returned to Copenhagen, yet now he’s back in the Harbour City exploring his options.
“I’m back in Australia just sussing out life actually, and what I’m gonna do in Australia,” the Danish royal told The Daily Telegraph at the GQ Men of The Year Awards in association with Defender.
“Now I’m not studying anymore so I’m trying to turn my life around in a way. Let’s see how it goes.”
This venture mirrors the experience of his father, Prince Joachim, who worked on a farm in Wagga Wagga for six months after finishing high school.
Joined by girlfriend Benedikte Thoustrup, Nikolai’s next move is searching for a job while he considers calling the city his permanent home.
“What’s not to like about living in Sydney during summertime, and attending GQ men of the year it’s amazing,” he said. “I’m looking for a job … I’m not sure if I’ll reveal it here.”
Nikolai’s connection to Australia runs deep – his aunt, Queen Mary, famously met Crown Prince Frederik, heir to Denmark’s throne, at the Slip Inn during the Sydney Olympics in 2000.
The royal has also ventured into modelling, where he made headlines in the fashion world after walking the runway for Dior in Paris in 2020.
