SHE’S the colourful cryptocurrency artist from Pendle Hill who gave up part time work at KFC and recycling old computers to make a motza in non-fungible tokens.
Serwah Attafuah worked at KFC Seven Hills and an e-waste facility at Villawood only to go home to create her “surreal” digital art for fun.
But in mid-2020 an art curator slid into the 24-year-old’s Instagram messages asking if she wanted to create an NFT for a digital art exhibition.
“I was like ‘sure thing, I don’t know what it is’, but it was one of the best decisions of my life,” she said.
“My first one sold for $1500. I never sold a piece before that, as a digital artist it is pretty much impossible to sell artwork.”
Not long after Attafuah created another piece and put it up for auction as an NFT. “I didn’t expect anyone to bid more than a couple hundred but I woke up and it was like 10 Ethereum which at the time was worth $24,000,” she said.
She hasn’t cashed out the cryptocurrency except for one very “westie” purchase. “Yeah I bought a Toyota 86, a real westie car,” she said.
Attafuah will be representing western Sydney in the Sound West Music and Tech Festival at Parramatta from August 20-28.
“It is great to see a festival come together and give us a platform to share our ideas and collaborate,” Attafuah who still lives with her parents at Pendle Hill.
“I will be sharing my NFT journey and tips and tricks I have learnt over the two years.”
The event runs frp, August 20-28 at Parramatta.
It’s Australia’s first tech and music festival and will see tech heavyweights like TikTok, Shopify, Linktr.ee, Finder and more come together with Greater Western Sydney music and creative artists. We will be announcing the full program line-up next Wed 6 July.
Other artists include L-FRESH The Lion, Fonzie Gomez, Bianca Beers, Nardean, Jamaica Moana, Live Natio, Fred Schebesta, Justin Truong and Zig Annor.
