Paul Gallen pledges to fight Ben Fordham if Gladys Berejiklian runs for Warringah

Boxer Paul Gallen has issued a bizarre challenge to 2GB host Ben Fordham - and it all depends on Gladys Berejiklian.

Boxer and ex-NRL player Paul Gallen has issued a bizarre challenge to 2GB host Ben Fordham - and it all depends on Gladys Berejiklian.

The former premier is thought to be considering a tilt for the seat of Warringah, with Prime Minister Scott Morrison said to have delayed the preselection deadline in order to give Ms Berejiklian time to consider a career in Canberra.

And now the former Cronulla Sharks captain turned boxer Paul Gallen has offered up extra incentive for Ms Berejiklian to take up a stint in federal politics.

2GB breakfast host Ben Fordham declared on air on Tuesday that he believed Ms Berejiklian wouldn’t run - and if he was wrong he would take on Gallen in the ring.

And the remark didn’t escape the boxer’s notice.

In a video on Wednesday, Gallen proudly shared his support for Ms Berejiklian, urging her to run for Warringah, saying if she won the election he’d hold Fordham to his promise and take him on.

“I’m a huge Gladys fan. Now Gladys, I want you to get back into parliament and run for Warringah, I’ve got no doubt you can win,” Gallen said in the clip.

“And if you win Gladys, Ben Fordham is going to jump in the boxing ring with me … I’ll sort him out good and proper.”

Gallen urged the radio host to start preparing for their face-off, offering to turn their prospective match into a charity event.

“Ben, sparring, training, fighting whatever you want, you come and jump in the ring with me, do it for charity, do it for whatever you want,” he said.

“But Gladys you get back into parliament and you run … let’s go Benny boy, start training, Gladys you’re back.”

Fordham revealed Gallen’s plan to make the match a reality on air on Wednesday.

“I made a comment yesterday that if I was wrong about (Ms Berejiklian running for Warringah), I’ll get in the boxing ring with Paul Gallen … I better be right,” Fordham said on Wednesday.

While noting Gallen “seems keen” to take him on in the ring, the radio host seemed less so.

He quipped: “I’m a lover not a fighter”.
