Paris Hilton on America’s new first daughter Ivanka Trump: ‘She knows what she’s doing’

THEY’RE both heiresses, from famous families and are sophisticated businesswomen, worth billions.
Ivanka Trump, 35, is America’s next first daughter and the executive vice-president of The Trump Organisation. Her childhood friend, Paris Hilton, 35, made a name playing a “blonde airhead” (her words) character on The Simple Life, only to emerge as a multibillion-dollar mega-brand, with a perfume empire worth $2.5 billion.
Given Hilton’s close friendship with America’s newest first family, her opinion on the recent US election matters right now.
She revealed she voted for Trump over Hillary Clinton, calling president-elect Trump “so supportive”.
“I’ve known him since I was a little girl,” Hilton said.
“I appreciate him. He’s a brilliant businessman.”
The hotel heiress today threw her support behind Trump’s daughter Ivanka for the White House, describing Ivanka as a “brilliant” woman.
“I’ve known her since I’m a little girl. I’ve known her father since I’m little. I think she is a brilliant woman,” Hilton told News Corp Australia today.
“She’s a business woman. I don’t think she needs any advice,” Hilton said.
“She knows exactly what she’s doing.
“She has an amazing brand and yeah, I’m proud of what she’s done.”
But the controversy has already started for Ivanka, even before Trump has officially moved into the White House.
Ivanka was the star of Trump’s first post-presidential victory interview with America’s 60 Minutes.
And while Hilton insisted that Ivanka would be “brilliant” in the spotlight although other commentator have been less kind, pointing to Ivanka’s blatant promotion of her jewllery line after her 60 Minutes interview as an early strategic blunder.
Meantime, Hilton was part of a social media campaign in the lead up to the November polls to encourage young Americans to vote.
It included a series of tongue-in-cheek fashion photos suggesting “President Paris” (including one shot showing Hilton, wearing a glamorous pink gown, standing in front of a pink White House. One of her policies? “I’d paint the White House pink”).
Hilton said she wanted to encourage her followers to vote.
“This is our country and we want everyone to have a say, and I feel like a lot, especially the millenials, were not voting,” Hilton said.
“So I wanted to get the message out there in a kind of fun way that they should ... use their voice.”
Paris Hilton defines herself as a businesswoman who is all about “girl power” and female empowerment.
“That’s always been my priority and what I care about most,” she says, sitting in a hotel room for the launch of her latest perfume, Gold Rush (it’s her 20th).
“I love women right now who are being so independent and doing their own thing, being entrepreneurs, developing their own businesses,” she said.
“I think society years ago ... most girls were almost trained to be pretty and find a rich guy.
“And that was something I never wanted to be that way. And I love that ... women are wanting to do their own thing and be independent and not depend on a man.”
And while Hilton’s BFF Ivanka doesn’t need any advice, Paris has some for women trying to make it in the business world.
“Believe in yourself. Really surround yourself with the right team of people who are going to help make your dreams come true,” Hilton said.
“Never listen to anyone who is trying to be negative about you.
“I never pay attention to negative people. I used to do that so much when I first became in this industry and just would let negative things bother me.
“But when you think about it, you only live once. It’s your life, not theirs, and if people are being negative about you or pull you down in some way, then you shouldn’t listen to them.”
