Nominees for the peer-reviewed categories in the Logie Awards announced
HOW quiche. The man behind Ja’mie King, Chris Lilley, is up for a silver Logie. But that’s not the only surprise in this year’s nominees list.
Logies
Don't miss out on the headlines from Logies. Followed categories will be added to My News.
The Logies has embraced its inner bogan with Chris Lilley’s Ja’mie: Private School Girl, Housos and Upper Middle Bogan all getting nods in the peer-voted categories.
Lilley has been nominated for a Silver Logie as Most Outstanding Actor for his performance as the snobby cashed-up bogan schoolgirl in Ja’mie King.
It is sweet redemption for Lilley who was devastated when the ABC made a huge gaffe by failing to put in a submission for his Angry Boys two years ago.
Lilley will be up against dramatic actors Craig McLachlan (The Doctor Blake Mysteries), David Wenham (Better Man), Lachy Hulme (Power Games: The Packer-Murdoch Story), and Kirk Page (Redfern Now).
The raunchy, politically-incorrect SBS comedy Housos and new ABC sitcom Upper Middle Bogan will fight it out against The Voice as well as Peter Helliar’s It’s A Date and Josh Thomas’ Please Like Me in the Most Outstanding Light Entertainment Program category.
The public-voted Gold Logie and other Most Popular Logie nominations will be announced later on Monday.
Last year’s Gold winner, Asher Keddie, will be a favourite to be nominated again but the field is wide open.
Last year’s Gold nominees included comedians Hamish Blake and Andy Lee as well as The Project’s Carrie Bickmore.
Seven’s soapie Home and Away is another show sure to feature prominently in the Most Popular categories.
Last year Steve Peacocke won Most Popular Actor and was nominated for Gold.
Offspring, which galvanised audiences with the death of Patrick Reid (Matthew Le Nevez) last year, received multiple Most Outstanding nominations.
The Channel 10 drama will take on Seven’s new A Place to Call Home, the ABC’s Redfern Now and The Time of Our Lives, and Foxtel’s Wentworth in the Most Outstanding Drama Series category.
Offspring stars Keddie and Kat Stewart will face off against Claudia Karvan (The Time of Our Lives), Danielle Cormack (Wentworth), and Mandy McElhinney (Paper Giants: Magazine Wars) for Most Outstanding Actress.
Most Outstanding Miniseries or Telemovie is a battle between Jane Campion’s Top of the Lake, Paper Giants: Magazine Wars, Power Games: The Packer-Murdoch Story, A Better Man, and An Accidental Soldier.
Ten’s new drama Wonderland is part of the action with Anna Bamford nominated for Most Outstanding Newcomer.
Caren Pistorius (Paper Giants), Meyne Wyatt (Redfern Now), Remy Hi (Better Man), and Shareena Clanton (Wentworth) are also in the mix.
Gruen panellist Todd Sampson has a nod in the Most Outstanding Factual Program category for Redesign My Brain.
Sunday Night will have bragging rights over rival 60 Minutes after scoring a nomination in the Most Outstanding Public Affairs Report category for “Prime Suspect”, Ross Coulthard’s investigation into the murder of backpacker Simone Strobel.
The Logies will screen on Channel 9 on Sunday, April 27 from Melbourne’s Crown Palladium.
