Sneaky way Anthony Albanese plans to get Taylor Swift tickets

Anthony Albanese may claim to be a Swiftie but there is one thing he won’t be doing when tickets go on sale later this week.

Anthony Albanese has let slip that he won’t be one of the millions of die hard Taylor Swift fans fighting to get a ticket to her much anticipated Eras Tour.

The Prime Minister, who recently outed himself as a big fan of the American singer, instead will be waiting by the phone hoping he secures an invite to see the pop icon live.

“The Tay-Tay fever is here. It will be here for many months leading up to the gig so I'm just hoping I can get a ticket. I haven’t got one yet,” he told Gold Coast radio.

“I’m hoping to get an invite somewhere. We’ll wait and see how it goes.”

Demand for the eye-wateringly priced VIP packages, which went on presale to American Express cardholders, caused ticketing websites to crash on Monday.

A second frenzy is expected on Wednesday when the Frontier Members pre-sale opens ahead of the general sale on Friday.

The Midnights songstress is coming to Australia in February for just five nights in Sydney and Melbourne. It means millions of fans from across the country and New Zealand will be battling it out to get their hands on a ticket to one of the most anticipated stadium tours in years.

Harvey Lister, Asia Pacific chairman of ASM Global, managers of Suncorp Stadium, confirmed to ABC Radio last week that dates were originally on hold for Swift to take the stage in Brisbane.

Asked about the snub on Tuesday, Mr Albanese laughed off a request for him to use his “prime ministerial powers” to force her to perform in the Sunshine State.

“Well, I’m not sure that threatening to ban Taylor Swift or not granting her a visa would be electorally a smart thing to do. I’m just putting it out there,” the Prime Minister said.

“It’d be great if she came to Queensland. It’d be great if she went everywhere. I’m sure she will. I think she’s so successful, though, that I reckon she kind of figures or her management reckon people will come to her. And I think that will happen.”

Mr Albanese outed himself as a major fan of Swift earlier this month after it was revealed he’d picked up the 1989 album on vinyl after her song ‘Shake it Off’ got him through a turbulent period on the campaign trail.

The Prime Minister said his favourite albums were Folklore and Evermore.

“A bit more relaxed, a bit more chilled, fantastic for listening to on a plane or travelling,” he said.

He also famously closed out his set at a fundraising event in Melbourne with ‘Shake it Off’, later saying he knew of Swift through his then 14-year old son, Nathan.

On Monday, he told Nine that Nathan had called him while overseas to ask him if he could get him a ticket.

“I know that my son is overseas at the moment having his first big break with his partner. So, he checks in, and the one thing he rang me about the other day was he had heard about Taylor Swift, and he asked me to see if I could get him a ticket,” he said.

“We will see how that goes.”
