Rock legends cancel all shows as frontman seeks ‘essential medical care’

Rock legends Queens of the Stone Age have cancelled all upcoming show amid concerns over frontman Josh Homme’s health.

Queens Of The Stone Age cancel tour as Josh Homme needs emergency surgery

Legendary rock band Queens of the Stone Age have cancelled the remainder of their shows for the year, explaining frontman Josh Homme is in need of “essential medical care.”
The announcement has fans of the band worried, given Homme revealed in 2022 he’d been receiving treatment for cancer.

“QOTSA regret to announce the cancellation and/or postponement of all remaining 2024 shows,” the band said in a statement posted to their socials this week.

“Josh has been given no choice but to prioritise his health and to receive essential medical care through the remainder of the year.”

The performances affected include a string of festival dates between now and November, some of which will be postponed to next year and some of which will be cancelled altogether.

The update comes a month after QOTSA were forced to cancel a number of European tour dates so that Homme could “return to the United States immediately for emergency surgery.”

Homme, 51, revealed in an interview last year he’d been diagnosed with cancer in 2022. He did not specify what kind.

“I never say it can’t get any worse. I never say that, and I wouldn’t advise it. But I do say it can get better,” Homme told Revolver Magazine.

“Cancer is just the cherry on top of an interesting time period, you know? I’m extremely thankful that I’ll get through this, and I’ll look back at this as something that’s f***ed up — but will have made me better. I’m cool with that. There’s a lot of stuff I want to do. And there’s a lot of people I want to do that with.”

The band’s latest announcement had fans once again expressing their support and concern for Homme.

“Breaks my heart, not the cancelled shows, but the fact he’s still that unwell,” one fan wrote under the band’s Instagram post.

“Josh … This is starting to get scary … Really, really hope you’ll get well soon,” another wrote.

“Dear Joshua, just take it easy on yourself. We all love you,” said another.

Queens of the Stone Age have toured Australia frequently since forming in the late 90s. Their most recent album, last year’s In Times New Roman …, entered the charts at number two here.
