HIT American r&b girl group TLC will be back in Australia for concerts in November.
Tionne T-Boz Watkins and Rozonda Chilli Thomas played their first ever shows here in 2014, resurrecting the girl power group for the stage more than a decade after the death of original member Lisa Left-Eye Lopes.
They have promised a final album from the remaining duo for early 2017, with Watkins signalling she will retire after its release.
“This album, our final album, is dedicated to all of you that have stuck with us, always challenging us to do our best. And of course, it’s for the new fans too! We just want to put out great music that touches everyone. That’s it,” the pair said in a statement.
The trio sold more than 60 million records during their 1990s heyday courtesy of chart topping hits including Waterfalls and No Scrubs.
Chilli has been back in the news in recent months, allegedly dating Mariah Carey’s ex-husband Nick Cannon and appears in the video for his latest single, If I Was Your Man.
The song was inspired by TLC’s 1992 hit What About Your Friends.
“I love TLC so let’s figure that out!” he said, explaining the song’s hook to Los Angeles radio station Power 106.
“And then I thought, ‘how crazy would it be if I got Chilli in the video?’ ... and one things leads to another, leads to another and now we’re on TMZ!”
Chilli has shared an intimate photo of Cannon kissing her neck on the set of the video on Instagram.
Lopes was killed in a car accident in Honduras in 2002 and the remaining duo have regrouped occasionally over the years.
They will be supported by Montell Jordan, whose massive hit This Is How We Do It remains an r&b classic two decades after it hit the charts.
They will kick off the tour at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on November 16 before heading to Adelaide’s Thebarton Theatre on November 22 and Melbourne’s Palais Theatre on November 23.
A Frontier Touring pre-sale begins at 2pm on August 24 with general tickets on sale from August 29 at 10am.
