They were already icons, now The Wiggles have achieved every musician’s dream – finding themselves on the cover of the world’s most iconic music magazine, Rolling Stone.

It’s The Wiggles like you’ve never seen them before as they hang up their skivvies for the cover of Rolling Stone.

The groovy makeover of Tsehay Hawkins, Anthony Field, Lachy Gillespie and Simon Pryce for the rock bible’s September issue comes as the iconic children’s group revel in their new status as one of the coolest bands in the land.

It’s been a year of firsts for The Wiggles, now in their 31st year.

Their popularity with teen and 20-something fans, who grew up on a diet of Fruit Salad and Hot Potato, has exploded in 2022 kicking off with their cover of Tame Impala’s Elephant topping Triple J’s Hottest 100 2021 poll announced in January.

They hit No. 1 on the ARIA album charts for the first time with their Rewiggled double record in March, which featured alternative versions of their classics from unlikely indie acts including The Chats, San Cisco and Dami Im.

Their expanded inclusive line-up, led by Hawkins, performed at the Sydney Mardi Gras and The Wiggles OGs, featuring founding members including Murray Cook, Jeff Fatt and Greg Page, sold out their arena “adult” tour.

The children’s group got a rapturous reception when they joined The Kid Laroi as surprise special guest at his recent Melbourne concert and rap popstar Lil Nas X wants to perform with them at the Falls Festival in December.

But making the cover of Rolling Stone is every musician’s dream. And it is rumoured they may have knocked over a couple of other superstar Aussie acts to claim it for the September issue.

“The Wiggles are more relevant than ever, which is exactly why pop culture icons like Lil Nas X and The Kid Laroi are embracing them,” the editor of the Australian issue Jake Challenor said.

Hawkins, who replaced Yellow Wiggle Emma Watkins last year, has already had a profound impact on the little girls who love the act.

Born in Ethiopia, she was adopted by her Australian parents Robyn and Reg Hawkins when she was five months old.

“I’ve seen little girls now wanting to wear their natural hair. A lot of kids straighten it to look like TV stars,” she told Rolling Stone.

“It’s really beautiful to see that they are embracing what they look like and that it’s okay to be different. I didn’t have that representation growing up.”

The Wiggles edition of Rolling Stone, which of course features an adult colouring-in book, is out on September 5.
