AFTER he won the Nobel prize in Literature earlier this month some labelled singer Bob Dylan “impolite and arrogant” for his dead silent response.
Dylan has finally commented on the rarely-bestowed honour for a singer-songwriter in a statement released by The Nobel Foundation.
“The news about the Nobel prize left me speechless,” Dylan said.
“I appreciate the honour so much.”
The singer-songwriter later told the Telegraph, “Isn’t that something ... it’s hard to believe.”
“Amazing, incredible ... Whoever dreams about something like that?” he said.
When the 75-year old received the honour on October 13, the Swedish Academy, the organisation that distributes the awards, admitted they had tried numerous times to speak to Dylan about his win however their attempts were fruitless.
This led to a member of the Academy, writer Per Wastberg, saying “one can say that it is impolite and arrogant.”
Dylan is notorious for his aversion to media and interviews with most putting his silence on the issue down to shyness.
His fans were also left wondering whether or not Dylan would accept the award after the honour was added to his website then quickly taken down.
Due to this, the Nobel Foundation are still unsure whether or not Dylan will attend the prize-giving ceremony in December saying they will “share information as soon as it is available.”
In his interview with The Telegraph however Dylan insisted he would “absolutely” attend the ceremony “if it’s at all possible.”
The accolade also comes with eight million Swedish kroner as prize money, equivalent to a whopping AUD $1.2 million.
Dylan was also awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 2008 for his contributions to music and American culture.
