WHEN Samantha Jade wrote “design a lingerie collection” on her to-do wishlist after winning X Factor six years ago, she didn’t contemplate she would also be modelling it.
As she turned 30 last year, the pop star decided she wanted a strong, healthy body and her fitness campaign gave her the confidence to show off her Bras N Things bodysuits and lingerie sets.
“I’ve never loved the gym but when I got to 30, I decided I needed to work harder to get healthy and strong, I have to be fit to do what I do,” she said.
“It’s important for me not just physically but mentally.
“I was nervous about modelling but I was so happy to feel empowered in my body and proud of myself for working hard to achieve that.”
Jade said she is a passionate collector of sleepwear and robes but talking to friends made her focus her first intimates range on luxurious bodysuits.
“I am lucky to work with so many women from dancers to stylists and makeup artists so I talked to all of them for market research and so many said they love the bodysuit look and bralettes right now,” she said.
“A lot of women feel they show off their body the best and you can dress them up with high waisted pants or skirt and a blazer or big white shirt.”
The lacey numbers will now also feature as part of her costumes as she realises another post-X Factor goal, a national tour.
While Jade has regularly performed throughout Australia for one-off specials, club gigs or as an opening act for One Direction, the Best Of My Love which kicks on August 18, this will be her first headlining concerts.
“Working on my fitness when I am doing these shows is so important because I want to be able to sing and dance without puffing. I know I can give it my all,” she said.
Jade admits she will undoubtedly suffer a flutter of nerves when her intimate range hits Bras N Things stores and online on August 13 and she is confronted by life-size posters of her modelling the lingerie.
“I’m glad I am doing it now at this time in my life because I feel I am at an age where I am confident, in control of what I am doing,” she said.
“I can now look at those photos with real eyes and loving eyes because we are all our own worst critics.
“I don’t think I could have done this in my 20s because I was too shy, too fussy about my body.”
