Rihanna critics don’t think she put any work into her recent performance.
The Grammy Award-winning superstar performed in India Friday night at the pre-wedding celebration for billionaire Anant Ambani and his bride, Radhika Merchant Jamnagar, and she’s being slammed for putting on a “lacklustre” and “boring” show.
“She got that coin and said f**k y’all ima do what I can,” one X user wrote under one of the several videos of her performing at the elaborate celebration that have been shared on social media.
Rihanna was paid an impressive $US6.3 million to perform at the wedding party, per the Daily Mail, which caused fans to be extra critical of the show.
The pop superstar, 36, was declared a billionaire and “richest female musician” by Forbes back in 2021, causing one critic to call the overseas show “charity work.”
“I’ve always said she’s an incredibly lazy performer…..she never took the time to improve her performances,” one person quipped.
Another agreed, “Rihanna always been dry and lacklustre idk why ppl are surprised.”
Sharing a similar sentiment, a disappointed fan claimed, “Rihanna has always performed like this. Not at the start of her career but quickly after.”
“She performed in front of all their biggest stars & is giving low energy & singing here & there.”
“People acting like Rihanna hasn’t always performed like this … I LOVE Rihanna but I always tell people her concerts have been some of the most boring I’ve been to,” another critic said.
Page Six reached out to Rihanna’s rep for comment on the backlash but did not immediately hear back.
Several other people compared the performance to her Super Bowl Halftime Show, which received mixed reviews from fans.
The televised performance, which took place at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. in February 2023, was her first live show in over five years.
Rihanna concerts are scarce nowadays as she focuses on motherhood and her several businesses, such as her uber-successful makeup line, Fenty Beauty, and her Savage X Fenty lingerie and sleepwear line.
Rihanna’s last album, Anti, was released in 2016, and fans have eagerly awaited new music ever since.
In February 2023, the mother of two hinted that music would soon arrive, telling British Vogue “it’d be ridiculous” if her highly-anticipated ninth studio album didn’t come out in 2023.
To fans’ dismay, the year ended with no new album from the singer.
