R&b goddess Solange will perform four exclusive Australian concerts at the Sydney Opera House in January

Solange never does the same thing twice. So it’s a big surprise her only Australian concerts to showcase her ‘When I Get Home’ album will be at the Sydney Opera House.

Solange has made a successful career out of not repeating herself but headlining the Sydney Opera House twice in 18 months is a no-brainer for the acclaimed musical genius.

The prodigiously talented polymath pop star and visual artist will kick off 2020 with four concerts in January at the iconic venue.

Her headlining, sold-out-in-minutes shows for Vivid Live last year were given a rapturous reception for their blend of avant-garde pop with striking visuals, imaginative stage and lighting design and unique choreography.

Solange has been enthralled by the world-famous concert venue since visiting it as a 13-year-old tourist.

“I took one of those ferries right in front of the Sydney Opera House,” she told her Vivid Live audience during one of her concerts last year.

“To be here this many years later and to fill this space with so much love, so much energy, so many beautiful people … it’s just a phenomenal feeling.”

Her four concerts next year on January 27, 28, 30 and 31 will showcase her fourth album When I Get Home with a new 360° set and choreography.

The self-produced album is a tribute to her and sister Beyonce’s hometown of Houston, Texas and its release earlier this year was accompanied by a 33-minute performance art film which she directed.

The Opera House’s head of contemporary music Ben Marshall said Solange has “never before played an arts institution twice.”

She told her Australian fans at her Vivid concert last year that she had thought she might not be able to perform again after she was diagnosed with autonomic disorder, which affects nerves, in October 2017.

She said her health battle had changed the way she approached live performance.

“I decided … I was no longer interested in the notion of (a live show being) just entertainment. I wanted to engage with you, create frequencies with you, see you and feel you and touch you,” she told fans.

The Sydney Opera House pre-sale for tickets, from $129 plus booking fee, begins on August 21 at 9am with general tickets on sale from August 23 via sydneyoperahouse.com or (02) 9250 7777.
