The Philippines are planning to build a stadium by 2028, big enough to hold Taylor Swift concerts.
Clark International Airport and Corp (CIAC) announced the bold plans to construct a stadium capable of hosting concerts by mega artists, including Swift.
Arrey Perez, President and CEO of CIAC, said that the proposed entertainment and events centre will be built within “walking distance” from Clark International Airport (CRK) in Pampanga.
He said that the complex, eyed to be completed by 2028, is estimated to measure close to 40 hectares and will cost around A$810m.
“When we host big events, we always see Philippine Arena. So, you have something like a 55,000-seater but the problem is it causes a lot of traffic,” Mr Perez told local media.
“And apart from that, Clark really needs also more attractions so that we can really attract more passengers, more airlines to the airport.
“Our mandate is to make sure that airport will grow kasi Clark International Airport Corporation kami so our business is not entertainment but really, all these developments are meant to support the growth of the CRK.”
The CIAC is the developer of the 2367-hectares and oversees functions of CRK.
Mr Perez said that a number of local and international companies from Singapore, the United States, and the Philippines have already shown interest in the proposed Clark arena project.
CIAC’s communications and events officer, Augusto Sanchez, said: “The design and build plans for the Clark Entertainment Center must attract musical events of world-renowned artists, including the likes of Taylor Swift.
“I hope by the time when we build our complex, we are ready to host her [Taylor] because the Philippines has always been a music-loving industry.
“Whenever there are international concerts it’s a hit especially with Clark, very easy. The airport is just there.”
