Musicians have adapted fast to the new norm with virtual concerts temporarily replacing the real thing. Here’s a guide to how to get live gigs in your loungeroom.

The music festival for self-isolators was such a success last weekend, it’s back for round two this Saturday and Sunday.

There’s 74 acts including Courtney Barnett, Josh Pyke, Kingswood, Sarah Blasko, Montaigne, Camp Cope, Jen Cloher, Alex the Astronaut, Middle Kids, Marlon Williams, Hatchie and Big Scary playing 20 minute sets on their Instagram Live pages, then you switch ’stages’ to the next performer and maybe discover your new favourite local muso.

Brisbane’s Tivoli are live-streaming gigs as part of their Shutdown Sessions and asking for a $5 donation. Tomorrow Sahara Beck will perform from What’s Golden bar, as well as have a quick chat about life as a muso in lockdown.

CLASSICAL

People from all over the world have already tuned in to watch the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra live stream their performances each Thursday night.

Tonight is Tognetti and the Lark Ascending, conducted by Sir Andrew Davis and featuring violinist Richard Tognetti.

While it’s free to watch, please donate to the MSO to keep the music playing.

CLASSICAL GUITAR

Daniel Nistico will live stream a one hour performance this Sunday playing Bach, Albeniz, Sor, Barrios, Frederic Rung and Leonard Schultz.

Concert promoter Michael MacManus, who scrapped an entire guitar festival and is now putting the gigs online, is using hi-tech equipment for these live streams.

He’s charging for them as a way for musicians to help make up for the months of work they’ve lost – prices start at $20, but you can donate $40 or $60.

Kate Ceberano is delving into the world of paid lifestreams.

For $10 you can watch Kate and mates live from the intimate Memo Music Hall in St Kilda on April 5, as filmed by the team behind RockWiz.

Ceberano has mastered everything from jazz to funk and this year released an indie rock album with Steve Kilbey, so expect no genre limits.

Local DJ/producer Hayden James should be on a US tour right now, but while he’s stuck at home he’s taking the lemon-to-lemonade approach and is live streaming DJ sets from his backyard each week.

Room 2 Radio want to spread joy not disease and are taking the nightclub online.

They’re taking the digital dancefloor very seriously – even posting wristbands which you can print out and wear for entry into the VIP area of your own loungeroom.

The Lounge Room Sessions sees local artists playing live on Facebook from their loungerooms for 20 minutes at 8pm. Any donations go straight to the artists. Tonight is Skyscraper Stan, Friday is Gabriella Cohen, Saturday is Matt Joe Gow, Sunday it’s Jess Locke.

Wham Bam Thank You Fam is the day party for kids, where parents don’t have to endure cheesy kids’ music.
