Peking Duk musician Adam Hyde reveals cancer diagnosis

The ARIA-winning musician underwent surgery after doctors told him he had “a double cancer” in his neck.

Abbie Chatfield's new musician boyfriend reveals cancer diagnosis

Peking Duk musician Adam Hyde has revealed he was diagnosed with skin cancer.

The ARIA winner shared his diagnosis on the LiSTNR podcast, It’s A Lot With Abbie Chatfield, moments after he revealed he was dating the TV and media personality.

While the duo’s relationship is going strong, they now face their biggest challenge as a couple so far following Hyde’s health discovery.

And it was a whirlwind from check-up to diagnosis with the musician requiring surgery one day after the cancer was detected in his neck.

“I got a phone call from the receptionist and she said I have a procedure booked in for tomorrow due to the results, which I hadn’t gotten given the results, so I was quite confused,” he recalled on the special double episode of the podcast.

Hyde – who is one-half of Peking Duk along with Reuben Styles – was with Chatfield at the time of the phone call and said she was more concerned that he was.

“The thing I love about you is, you care about me so much,” he told her on-air. “Because I was like, it is what it is, I guess. It’s f***ing cancer. It’s melanoma or something, which whatever – we’ll deal with it. Whatever happens, happens.

“But you went catatonic. You went, ‘Like f**k’, which I love.”

Chatfield admitted she did but it was because she wanted him to be OK given doctors told him he had “a double cancer” in his neck.

“I love you so much and I didn’t want you to be worried or sick or in pain, and I didn’t want you to die,” she explained.

“Again, me going, ‘Of course I find the love of my life and he gets cancer.’”

But the prognosis is good as doctors assured Hyde it’s “not melanoma” as he plans to get “the full surgical treatment done”.

In the same podcast, the couple appeared as loved-up as ever as they finally made their relationship public.

“We’re so in love and we love talking about it,” Chatfield told listeners. “Not only are we so in love, but we also have really healthy relationship.”

Hyde also showered his new girlfriend with praise, telling her: “Abbie, I think you’re so kind and caring and intelligent and incredibly beautiful in a million different ways.”
