Mysterious Adele TV ad fuels Australian tour rumours

A STARK ad featuring Adele was all over screens last night, an indication the superstar could be heading our way for her first Aussie tour.

HELLO ... it’s Adele ...

WORLD-CONQUERING singer Adele made a surprise appearance on Australian screens last night thanks to a mysterious TV advert that sent fans into a frenzy.

The 30-second ad, which aired during prime time shows The Block and The X Factor, was eye-catching in its simplicity: a close-up of the singer’s closed eyes, finally opening as the opening line of her 2015 comeback hit Hello rings out.

And that was it. No info, no announcement, nothing. Given Adele’s most recent album, 25, was released 12 months ago and has been classified 8 x platinum on Australia’s ARIA charts, many fans took to social media to speculate that this new ad could be an announcement (pre-announcement?) for an Australian tour.

The 28-year-old Brit has just three dates left on her Adele Live 2016 tour, finishing in Phoenix, Arizona on November 21. After that mammoth 107-date tour is done, her calendar is wide open. Could a clutch of Aussie and New Zealand (the ad aired there too) dates be booked for the New Year? Many fans are hoping ...

Given the Rolling in the Deep singer has never played a concert on these shores — and, at last count, there are around two million Adele albums in Aussie homes — expect any Adele tour dates to be one of the hottest tickets of 2017.

Back in July, Adele let slip during a Minnesota concert that she was plotting an Aussie jaunt, chatting to a few Aussies in the crowd who’d travelled to the US just to see her.

“I’m planning an Australian tour now,” Adele said on stage. “Why don’t we get your info and when the Sydney show happens you can come, on us.”

She then backtracked from her unscripted announcement, adding: “Well, if the tour happens, I always announce things when I’m not supposed to.”

Australian promoters have been locked in a fierce bidding war, waiting for the singer to extend her ‘Adele Live 2016’ tour into the new year. There are two barriers to an Aussie visit: her son Angelo, who starts school next year, and the Grammy Awards, which she is expected to dominate and which will take place on February 12 in Los Angeles.
