Morrissey has revealed that The Smiths were set to reunite for a huge 2025 tour in return for big bucks.

However, the singer also admitted that one particular member of the rock band refused to take part and ruined things for the rest of them.

Morrissey, Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce made up the original lineup of The Smiths at their formation in 1982.

However, in 1987, the band ended up falling out with each other, and as a result they split up and have never performed together again since.

Morrissey, 65, has now revealed that there was a chance of getting some of the band members back together again for a tour in 2025.

However, he revealed that Johnny Marr, 60, wanted nothing to do with the idea, and they both focused on their own solo music.

On his website, the singer said: “In June 2024 AEG Entertainment Group made a lucrative offer to both Morrissey and Marr to tour worldwide as ‘The Smiths’ throughout 2025.

“Morrissey said ‘Yes’ to the offer; Marr ignored the offer.”

The songwriter added: “Morrissey undertakes a largely sold-out tour of the USA in November.

“Marr continues to tour as a special guest to New Order.”

Meanwhile, if they ever do tour together again, one place they’ll be avoiding like the plague is Brisbane.

Back in 2016, singer Morrissey did an Aussie tour that visited Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra, Newcastle and Wollongong.

He told news.com.au that he missed out on Brisbane for one big reason.

“I didn’t want to return to Brisbane because I’ve played there twice and on both nights I was heckled, which doesn’t bother me that much, but even if I reply with something snazzy, the heckler always wins because the night has been soured and we no longer feel welcome. That’s life.”

While on his tour, he refused to perform anywhere, which rejected his demand to serve meat-free products only at his shows.

Australian tour will only be able to serve meat-free food, both in backstage catering and food on sale to the public.

“I wish more artists would adopt this,” he said. “But we go to China this year and it’s such a flesh-eaters paradise that we feel certain there will be skewered dog for sale somewhere. The halls in Taiwan and Iceland would not go flesh-free, so we refused to book the dates. It’s a matter of humanitarian progress.”
