Kylie Minogue’s joy as she lands first Brit Awards nomination in 13 years, scoops Billboard award

Kylie Minogue has landed a huge honour for the first time in 13 years in the wake of her pop renaissance.

Kylie Minogue has returned to the Brit Awards nominees circle for the first time in 13 years in the wake of her Padam Padam-led pop renaissance.

Minogue, who is also up for a Grammy award next month for Best Pop Dance Recording, has been nominated for Best International Artist.

She is part of a stacked field of female artists including Olivia Rodrigo, Lana Del Rey, Taylor Swift, SZA and Miley Cyrus in the category.

“OMG...I’m a Brits International Artist of the Year nomineeeee! Thank you, THANK YOU!!” Minogue posted in reaction to the nod.

Just an hour later, she was celebrating another accolade with Billboard bestowing her with their Women in Music 2024 Icon award.

“Today just gets better and better! What an absolute honour,” she wrote.

South London r&b and soul star Raye, who tours Australia next month with the Laneway Festival, has made Brit Awards history with her seven nominations haul, eclipsing the record of six nods held by Robbie Williams, Craig David and Gorillaz.

Raye has commanded the global charts with her inescapable hit Escapism. The 25-year-old’s comeback story is remarkable; the talented singer and songwriter busted free of a major label in 2021 after they had left her in limbo for seven years, refusing to “allow” her to put out an album.

She was able to extricate herself from the deal after airing her plight on Twitter, now X in 2021.

“I have been on a 4 album record deal since 2014 !!! And haven’t been allowed to put out one album. All I care about is the music. I’m sick of being slept on and I’m sick of being in pain about it.”

Now her record My 21st Century Blues has taken her to worldwide success.

Other big names in contention for the Brits include chart-topping rapper Central Cee, whose Sprinter single with Dave spent weeks at the top of the Australian charts as well, has four nominations while Dua Lipa won three nods.

Among the superstars who were mostly snubbed by the Brits voters this years were Rolling Stones, Ed Sheeran, Stormzy and Lewis Capaldi, who all released No.1 records in the UK but only scored one nomination each.

Despite being feted by the Brits in previous years, Sam Smith and Gorillaz, received none at all.
