Jessica Mauboy sacks stylist over hitch which lead to her missing anthem chance
JESSICA Mauboy has parted ways with the stylist who was at the centre of her Melbourne Cup meltdown.
JESSICA Mauboy has parted ways with the stylist who was at the centre of her Melbourne Cup meltdown.
A source close to the performer told Confidential that she has parted ways with her longtime stylist Mike Ayoubi, the man credited with overhauling her fashion sense.
Ayoubi’s name hit the headlines earlier this month when Mauboy was unable to perform the national anthem at the Melbourne Cup following “miscommunication with her styling team”.
It is understood Ayoubi had dressed the pop princess in a sanctioned Myer dress and headpiece, however the David Jones-stocked Dolce and Gabbana boots she wore were deemed inappropriate by Victoria Racing Club officials.
At the time Mauboy told The Daily Telegraph: “Four minutes before I am about to be walked out from the green room, people on one side are bickering with people on another side and it started to suffocate me, it was crazy and I didn’t know what to do. It was the scariest moment ever.
“All I could feel was all the bad energy coming from people, time stopped and I could see it all going on around me. I could see me stuck on the lounge and I’m thinking ‘Why aren’t you getting up and getting going?’ It was horrible.”
When contacted yesterday Ayoubi would not comment on the situation, but did not deny he and Mauboy had parted ways.
Mauboy was the stylist’s No.1 client and has travelled the country dressing her for many years.
Just yesterday Ayoubi posted an image of his “friend” Mauboy on the cover of InStyle magazine, however acknowledged a fellow stylist for her work.

“Very proud of my friend for one of the best covers I’ve seen this year,” he wrote. “Well done to a stylist who I adore, Katherine Green. And to @instylemag for the continued love and support you give JM.”
The source who did not wish to be named said following the Cup Day fiasco Mauboy decided to end the relationship.
Mauboy’s manager David Champion did not respond to Confidential’s request for a comment.
