Stop calling James Blunt’s breakout hit romantic

BLUNT’S breakout hit ‘You’re Beautiful’ was a global smash and is still one of the world’s most popular wedding songs — but, you better not call it romantic.

Sunday Night: Perfectly Blunt

JAMES Blunt has a few choice words for fans of his breakout hit You’re Beautiful.

Speaking to The Huffington Post, the British singer addressed the popular opinion that his 2005 tune is “romantic”.

“Everyone goes, ‘Ah, he’s so romantic. I want You’re Beautiful as my wedding song.’ These people are f**ked up,” said Blunt.

While the song might’ve permanently put Blunt on the map and gave him the title of the decade’s best selling album in the UK, it’s the misinterpretation of the lyrics that continues to grind his gears.

“You get labelled with these things like, ‘Oh, James Blunt. Isn’t he just a soft romantic?’ Well, f**k that. No, I’m not,” he said.

“You’re Beautiful is not this soft romantic f**king song. It’s about a guy who’s high as a f**king kite on drugs in the subway stalking someone else’s girlfriend when that guy is there in front of him, and he should be locked up or put in prison for being some kind of perv,” the singer added.

From that, it should come as no surprise that the singer is well-known for his frankness in interviews.

In a recent interview with NewsCorp, Blunt called out trolls who bully him on Twitter.

“If you look at trolls they’re exactly as you imagine them, miserable people in dark rooms with their trousers around their ankles. Why we should take these people seriously is beyond me,” he said.

Blunt is also notorious for poking fun at himself on Twitter.

In the wake of a number of celebrity deaths last year including David Bowie, George Michael and his close friend Carrie Fisher, Blunt joked: “If you thought 2016 was bad, I’m releasing an album in 2017.”

And, while it’s been over a decade since Blunt’s iconic tune, he’s finally decided to clear up rumours around whether or not the song annoys him.

“Too much of a good thing turns into a bad thing eventually, and it got a lot of airplay, and it doesn’t take much to work out that kind of thing. I love hamburgers, but if you give me a hamburger for every meal I’m gonna tire of it,” he said.

“Is it an annoying song? No, it’s not, unless it’s shoved down your f**king throat a s**tload.”
