SHE’S a darling of the Australian music scene and now Melbourne singer Courtney Barnett has caught the attention of Barack Obama.
The US President has released a list of his favourite summer songs with Barnett’s track Elevator Operator making the list, alongside hip hop stars Nas, Chance the Rapper, Common, Jay Z and Pharrell Williams.
Obama’s “daytime” presidential playlist, released on Spotify, includes Grammy nominee Barnett’s song, off her debut album Sometimes I Sit and Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit.
Sara Bareilles’ Many The Miles, Nina Simone’s Sinnerman and Aretha Franklin’s Rock Steady also appear.
“Been waiting to drop this: summer playlist, the encore. What’s everybody listening to?,” Obama tweeted.
The President also recommended Tightrope by Janelle Monae, Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Common’s Forever Begins and Prince’s U Got The Look, on the list of 19 songs he likes to play at the White House on breezy summer days.
Obama created a separate 20-song list “for the night-time”, which features darker tracks like Criminal by Fiona Apple, Acid Rain by Chance the Rapper, and Janet Jackson’s I Get Lonely.

But missing from the list are two of Obama’s favourite artists — Beyonce and Kenrick Lamar, the President’s favourite rapper who performed at his 55th birthday party and at the White House’s July 4 bash, according to The independent.
Another song that was missing from the list is Lose Yourself by Enimem — the song Obama listened to before addressing the Democratic National Convention last month.
