Christina Aguilera didn’t just show off her vocals during opening night of her Las Vegas residency this week, but she also displayed her recent weight loss.
This past year, the Grammy winner has reportedly lost a staggering 18kg from her 157cm frame – and her transformation was all on show when she rocked skimpy leotards, form-fitting bodysuits and knee-high boots to kick off her concerts at The Voltaire at The Venetian.
Full of high energy, Aguilera belted out her biggest hits including Genie In A Bottle, Dirrty and Lady Marmalade and looked like her best self during her performance.
The 43-year-old reportedly shed the weight by following a balanced diet and dedicating herself to boxing, strength training and cardio workouts.
After years of fluctuating and being sidetracked, the star said she was done with dieting per say and would instead follow a healthier meal plan based on plant-rich foods every day. She also vowed to ditch the sugary snacks.
“I’ve been through my highs, I’ve been through my lows,” she told Marie Claire in a previous interview. “I’ve been through the gamut of all things in this business. Being too thin. Being bigger. I’ve been criticised for being on both sides of the scale.”
But the mum-of-two – she shares son Max, 15, with ex-husband Jordan Bratman and daughter Summer Rain, 9, with her fiancé Matthew Rutler – says she has learnt to “block out” the noise “automatically”.
In another previous interview, Aguilera admitted that she “hated being skinny” in the ‘90s when she was just emerging on the scene as she “loved her booty”.
“Entering this business, I hated being super skinny. Once I turned 21, I started filling out a little bit, and I was loving my new curves,” she told Health back in 2021.
“I appreciated having a booty … I have a hard time looking at the early pictures of myself because I remember feeling so insecure.”
But that insecurity has since been replaced with confidence as next year marks 25 years since Aguilera released her self-titled debut album.
Aged just 18 when she burst onto the scene, she certainly turned heads with her vocals, winning the coveted Best New Artist at the 1999 Grammy Awards.
“Twenty-five years allows me the opportunity to reflect on the music, my growth and the amazing journey during that time of spending incredible moments with my fans worldwide,” she told news.com.au last month of her upcoming career milestone.
“There have been so many amazing moments. It’s impossible to pick only one, but since there’s nothing like the first time – I would say winning the Grammy for Best New Artist was such a thrill at the time. I was a newcomer and baby to the business. You can never repeat that category, so it’s one that I especially cherish.”
