KYLIE MINOGUE RAISES ROOF AT BRIT AWARDS
It comes as Minogue was honoured with a Global Icon gong at the 2024 Brit Awards during a star-studded ceremony in London.
The pop icon, 55, received the prestigious award, which comes 35 years after her first Brits nomination, on a night dominated by female artists.
She closed the ceremony at the O2 Arena by performing an energetic medley of her biggest hits.
Before collecting her gong, Minogue showed her fun-loving side by performing a “shoey” after being urged on by host Roman Kemp.
Kemp said it would be “amiss” of him to “not go with an Aussie tradition” as he interviewed Minogue at her table.
“So will Kylie Minogue do a shoey with me at the Brits? If I ask for your shoe, can I do that?” the TV host, the son of Spandau Ballet’s Martin Kemp, asked.
“Do I do this?” Minogue asked the crowd.
Kemp produced a pair of black stilettos and proceeded to fill them with beer.
Ever the good sport, Minogue clinked stilettos with the host and downed the drink in one.
It came as British singer-songwriter Raye blitzed the event, picking up a record-breaking six awards across the seven she was nominated for.
The 26-year-old star, real name Rachel Agatha Keen, won the first gong of the event, Song of the Year, for her hit Escapism, before taking home Album of the Year, the R&B Act award and Best New Artist prize.
Raye also won Songwriter of the Year and Artist Of The Year, the non-gendered award that caused controversy last year after it replaced individual male and female categories.
For her final win of the night, Album of the Year, the London-born star brought her grandmother with her to the podium.
The star sobbed as she hugged her grandmother Agatha, who was overwhelmed with emotion.
Raye told the crowd: “You just don’t understand what this means to me.”
“I want to thank my grandma for her prayers,” she said. “My grandma was awake until 3am praying for me and my beautiful sisters. I love you so much.”
In a cute touch, the effervescent star changed into a pair of comfortable slippers towards the end of her epic night.
Earlier, Minogue dazzled on the red carpet before receiving her award, which organisers said was “in recognition of her career spanning across five decades as one of the world’s most successful and iconic music stars”.
Recalling some of her famous Brit Awards moments over the years on the red carpet, the star told Sky News UK her iconic 2002 performance of Can’t Get You Out Of My Head “would have to be ultimate - being ejected from a giant CD player.”
British singer Dua Lipa made a grand entrance in a jaw-dropping black leather gown accessorised with a chunky silver necklace.
Pop star Ellie Goulding also stunned in a silky champagne gown which featured cutouts and a high-cut slit.
