Billie Eilish fans are the latest targets for online scammers looking to trick young people into forking out hundreds of dollars, with no return.

Billie Eilish fans are the latest targets for online scammers looking to trick young people into forking out hundreds of dollars, with no return.

As tickets for the American superstar singer’s 2025 Hit Me Hard and Soft world tour – which will see her perform 12 sold-out arena concerts in Australia, went on sale last week, cyber-criminals took to their computers and listed “fake” tickets for resale, according to NordVPN.

Top tier A Reserve seating tickets to see the world renowned artist went for $249.90, almost 40 per cent more expensive than her Happier Than Ever shows in 2022 which cost $179.90, with some fans complaining prices are higher than Taylor Swift’s shows.

Cybersecurity experts have suggested these prices have led fans to hit the resale market in the hopes of scoring cheaper tickets and warning these young Eilish supporters to be vigilant for “falsified” tickets and criminals looking to steal personal information.

The Lovely singer herself also issued a warning for devoted fans ahead of sales, having been made aware of existing attempts to scam people into losing money while purchasing tickets on resale websites and on social media.

“Guys watch out for scams — no tickets have been sold yet for the tour. Do not buy tickets from anyone claiming to sell tickets,” she wrote on Instagram last Monday, following the tour announcement.

NordVPN cybersecurity expert Adrianus Warmenhoven said fans should be aware of phishing websites created by scammers — which use similar URLs as official ticket distributors such as Ticketek to steal personal information, money and credit card information, and to approach resales with extreme caution.

People tend to let their guard down whenever they feel like the safe option is too expensive or they missed a chance to buy tickets to their favourite performer’s show from an official seller,” he said.

“They expose themselves to greedy scammers waiting for someone to make a mistake, give out their data, or transfer money into malicious hands.”

To protect against scammers, Mr Warmenhoven advises fans “don’t be fooled by a lower price, learn to identify phishing websites and buy your tickets from trusted distributors.”
