Australian music legend Daniel Johns may be releasing a new album, but he has no intention of performing live again.

The 42-year-old former frontman of Silverchair has confirmed he won’t be going on tour because he doesn’t feel like a performing artist anymore.

“Some people write records so they can perform it live, which is completely cool, but I don’t write music so I can perform it,” Johns told Rolling Stone as per Daily Mail.

“I just don’t feel like a performing artist. I don’t feel like a touring artist. I feel like someone who needs to come up with stuff, and come up with new s**t.”

Johns will appear on the magazine’s April cover to coincide with the release of his first solo album in seven years, FutureNever.

The photo shoot took place in Johns’ Newcastle home, which Rolling Stone Australia/NZ editor in chief Poppy Reid compared to a museum.

“ … it celebrates his love of art, vintage interior design, and also his iconic career with little nods to Silverchair and his impact on the music industry as a whole strewn throughout,” she said.

Johns catapulted to fame at just 15 when Silverchair’s single Tomorrow was released in 1992. The band split up in 2011 and Johns debuted as a solo artist in 2015.

Johns bluntly confirmed the band would never reform with him at the helm last year in the first episode of the highly successful podcast Who is Daniel Johns?.

“I wouldn’t even get Silverchair back together for a million dollars with a gun to my head,” he said.

Promoting the podcast on The Project, Johns candidly addressed his battle with mental health, describing himself as “a pretty fragile person”.

“It took me years and years and years of really heavy, heavy therapy,” he said of finally finding himself in a place where he’s happy.

“I gave up millions and millions and possibilities endlessly just to be internally happy,” he added of quitting his band at the height of their fame.
