The movie, slated for release in March, 2018 has already cast Hail, Caesar’s Alden Ehrenreich to play Han Solo which will be a prequel to the Star Wars series.
According to the Star Wars website, the films will “depict Lando in his formative years as a scoundrel on the rise in the galaxy’s underworld — years before the events involving Han, Leia, and Darth Vader.”
Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller went on to express their appreciation for Glover.
“We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us,” said Lord and Miller.
“These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologise to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”
The part Glover will play was originally played by Billy Dee Williams in Return of the Jedi and The Empire Strikes Back and was always popular with fans.
Glover is currently starring in the hit show Atlanta, a comedy-drama created by the actor. He also heads the writer’s room and previously starred on Community for four seasons.
Production on the untitled Han Solo movie is set to begin in January.
