The truth about Gal Gadot’s salary for Wonder Woman

A REPORT claiming Gadot was paid 46 times less than what Henry Cavill was paid for playing Superman has been shot down by industry sources.

IT WAS the salary statistic that caused outrage when it spread like wildfire yesterday, but it turns out it was a load of s**t.

A report claimed that Wonder Woman’s Gal Gadot was paid just $US300,000 for her role in the film which has so far grossed more than $US578 million worldwide.

The same report claimed that Henry Cavill was paid 46 times more than Gadot ($US14 million) when he first starred as Superman in 2013’s Man of Steel.

But according to sources, there’s no way Cavill made that much for his debut superhero role.

“It certainly isn’t for one picture,” a source told Vanity Fair, “That’s insane”.

A different source told The Hollywood Reporter that it would be “ridiculous” to suggest Cavill was paid $US14 million in 2013 and said that Gadot was paid the same amount upfront, possibly even more, than what her male counterpart made.

Typically actors get paid somewhere between $US150,000 to $750,000 upfront for their debut roles in superhero movies.

But they often have bonuses built into their contracts meaning they get paid even more if the movie goes on to gross a certain amount worldwide.

And of course if the movie’s a hit, a sequel is almost inevitable and the actor can demand a much bigger salary for the second film.

For example, Aussie Chris Hemsworth was paid just $US150,000 for his first role as Thor in 2011, but by 2015 his salary had risen to $US6.9 million for playing the hammer-wielding hero.

Adam Driver was paid $US500,000 upfront to play Kylo Ren in Star Wars: The Force Awakens but you can bet he pocketed a bonus cheque when the movie went on to gross more than $US2 billion.

So while Gal Gadot might have only made $US300,000 for her first role as Wonder Woman, rest assured that she too will receive a nice little bonus and she’ll be able to demand a much bigger payday for the inevitable sequel.
